Information on projects at Bournes Green Park

28 October 2008 Funding has been secured from Cory Environmental Trust to a maximum of £50,000 for the wheeled sports facility at Bournes Green Park. The job has gone out to tender and it is anticipated that a contractor will be appointed by the New Year.

A consultation process will then be undertaken with the local youth by the contractor. . If all goes to plan, the facility will be up and running in time for the school summer holidays.

The Bournes Green Park Watch scheme meets regularly at Whittingham Methodist Church to progress an initiative designed to improve facilities at the park. During the summer the local Police Community Support Officers together wiith Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators, surveyed youngsters using the park to see what they wanted in the way of facilities.
Three things came out of the survey. They were as follows:

Improved playground facilities for younger children
    A wheeled sports facility
    A youth club

The scheme is now looking at ways of raising the money that will be needed to finance the recreation facilities. With regard to the youth club, a pilot drop in centre for youngsters aged from 11 to 16 years was opened on 18th January at Whittingham Methodist Church. The local police officer, Andy Booker, has managed to source some computer games whilst the lay worker, Roy Brown, has managed to provide a pool table. The Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership has provided a grant of £200 for start up costs. Watch this space for more updates on the scheme.

A bid has been submitted to Cory Environmental Trust for a wheeled sports facility for the park. The trustees will be meeting in early April to discuss this bid. If successful, work could be completed by the autumn.

The wheeled facility has been completed and is up and running
